Augmented City Tour is an unusual tour of Berlijnplein and its surroundings that turns the area into a 40.000m multisensory, imaginative, exploratory stage.
The Tour is based on narratives emerged from researching the multi-layered and tacit knowledge of the Berlijnplein.
The Tour is presented to the public, or City Tourist, in two formats: a performative Guided Tour which is staged once a month, and Audio Guide, an installation/experience accessible 24/7.
In the Guided Tour, an actor (the Tour Host) shows Raum’s surroundings to the participants. Each tourist will be provided with a special tool-set to interact with and explore the space (maps, lenses, instruments, compass etc..). The entire Berlijnplein becomes a stage of an interactive play.
The 24/7 Audio Guide version is accessible by any RAUM visitor at any time of the day through their smartphones and will present the same narratives of the Guided Tour but in a more intimate way. A special app will guide the visitors through atmospheric sounds, snippets of text and by suggesting interactions with the environment.
The narrative of the 24/7 Audio Guide will change every day of the week (with a total of 7 narratives): this will invite people to come back and engage with RAUM’s surrounding more often. The confusion of different and sometimes contradicting narratives will also spark more curiosity and active interest.
To stimulate the growth of a place’s identity, people need to engage with it in all its “scapes”. Augmented City Tour wants to create this engagement by stimulating imagination (what if scenario, abstract inputs), with physical involvement (bodily movement, activating relation between body and space), and by stimulating interaction between the audience the audience itself (interactions, collaborations, solidarities).
